This paper explores the various aspects of marketing and company culture and how both are interrelated within a functioning organization. Specifically, focus will be placed on the definition of company culture, the definition of marketing, how company culture and marketing are related, implementing both effectively, and finally a discussion of companies with excellent cultures. First, in order to have a complete understanding the relationship between marketing and company culture, one must know how company culture is defined. According to Leo Sin and Alan Tse, â€Å"Corporate culture has been defined as patterns of shared values and beliefs over time which produce behavioral norms that are adopted in solving problems† (295). Additionally, Debra Nelson and James Quick define organizational (corporate) culture as, â€Å"A pattern of basic assumptions that are considered valid and that are taught to new members as the way to perceive, think, and feel in the organization† (556). Furthermore, company culture is important because it facilitates higher efficiency, communication and collaboration between employees (Sathe, 9). In summary, the culture of an organization describes and determines how an organization and its employees will function in various situations. Beyond a definition of corporate culture, one also needs to look at how a company functions from a marketing perspective. According to the American Marketing Association, â€Å"Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large† (1). Although India is poor nation, there are 150 to 200 million prosperous middle class population was attracted McDonald’s. However, there are unique challenges for McDonald’s. For thousands of years, India’s Hindu culture has revered the cow and do not eat the meat of the scared cow, also there are some 140 million Muslims in India, and Muslims don’t eat pork. To respect and adapt Indian culture, McDonald’s created an Indian version of burgers which are made from mutton and chicken. All foods are segregated vegetarian and nonvegetarian, due to many Hindus are vegetarians. Issue Statement. In 2001, three Indian businessmen living in Seattle are all vegetarians and two who were Hindus, they sued McDonald’s for â€Å"fraudulently concealing the existence of beef in McDonald’s French fries! Through some argument between Mac and Indian people, finally Mac admitted that it used a â€Å"minuscule† amount of beef extract in the oil. McDonald’s settled the suit for $10 million and issued an apology. However, news blaze abroad, Hindu nationalists onto the streets in Delhi, where they vandalized one McDonald’s restaurant, causing $45,000 of damage; shouted slogans outside of another; picketed the company’s headquarters; and called on India’s prime minister to close McDonald’s 27 stores in the country. McDonald’s Indian franchise holders quickly issued denials that they used oil that contained beef extract, and Hindu extremists submit McDonald’s oil to laboratory tests to see if they could detect beef extract. Problem Analysis and Justification * The main problem of the case is religion issue. Hindu culture has very strong belief because it has remained unbroken and largely unchanged for at least five thousand years. In America, eat beef is widely accepted, but for Hindus that violate Divine Mother. * There is different culture between two countries. U.S is more individualism society against Hindu is more collectivism, so they walk together onto the street. * McDonald’s should not give inconstant argument that oil contained beef extract. This will make people un-trust of the company. Conclusions and Recommendations. With above problems analysis, the company should have some solution. Firstly the company must understand how differences in culture affect the practice of the business. McDonald’s knows Hindu do not eat beef and yet they still put beef extract in the oil, the reason may the company didn’t understand the Hindu culture clearly. Furthermore, the company can employ the local citizens to help them do business in particular culture. These factors also give other foreign fast food and retail stores a lesson when they first time entrance India. Actually McDonald’s can avoid Hindu nationalists paraded onto street and damage of the restaurant by block the news, because the company has settled the suit for $10 million, they can asked the court to block the news. For my opinion, McDonald’s not necessary go in very localizing taste. As McDonald’s say nowadays young generation enjoyed the â€Å"American† experience, so this is an advantage of McDonald’s doing American style but McDonald’s must be on continual guard against the particular culture. How to deal with coworkers you dont like It can be unbearable having to go show up every day and see someone who drives you absolutely nuts. It can be even worse if major parts of your workday involve interacting with this person. Before you reach a breaking point and say or do something you might regret, try a few of these helpful strategies instead. You can’t change someone’s personality, but you can find a healthy and productive way to deal.Don’t badmouth to your coworkers.Don’t let your hatred of this person spill into the rest of your work life or poison your other colleagues. This isn’t high school- it’s a workplace. Talking trash is a bad, immature look. Staying classy also means watching your body language, sighs, and eye rolls in that person’s presence. You might think you’re being subtle- or funny- but you’re not. Rudeness is never a good look.Kill with kindness.When in doubt, default to the most polite version of yourself. Fake it ’til you make it if you have to- acting sweet as pie might not come easy, but you’ll come across as professional. Try simple pleasantries: say hello or nod when passing them in the halls and say goodnight when leaving for the day. You can’t change someone, but you can change how you act around them and the energy you put into the world (and the workplace).Have a heart to heart.Some work antagonism is just due to a personality clash, which is hard to fix. But if have tension with someone because of one or two specific and heated incidents, that’s easier to fix. Your best bet is to hash it out. Ask your coworker to go to a quiet conference room, go for a walk, or have a cup of coffee. Bring up recent tensions and tell him or her you want to work together to move past them.  Who knows, you could end up having a fruitful work relationship- even a friendly one- if this sort of gamble pays off. Your coworker could be just plain incompetent- or a huge jerk. Either way, it’s not about you and it’s not worth letting annoyance get in the way of your work and professional growth. Focus on being a good person and a valuable employee- that’s why you’re at work.Think about all the energy you’re putting into hating this person. Or just being perpetually annoyed. Could you be doing something better with your time? Focus on yourself, your job, and the good you can do to counteract the rage this person drives you to! Remember, you can only control how you act.
